Powder Coating Paint System

.

 Powder Coating
The Powder flows gently from the application gun and is drawn to the object by an electrostatic charge. The objects then go to an oven where the powder melts and bonds to form a protective coating.

ALWAYS in the forefront of technology in the building industry, Morton Buildings, once again takes the lead in proudly announcing the recent addition of a brand new in house powder coating paint system.

Powder Coatings were developed over twenty years ago as an alternative to liquid paints and during the last decade have seen tremendous growth in several industries. Particles of the coating are made to float around and coat the surfaces of parts to which they are attracted electrostatically. The part is moved to an oven where the particles rapidly melt, fuse to each other and adhere to the part as a cured film.

There are a number of advantages to Morton Buildings' use of powder coating that customers will be pleased to note. Morton uses high performance powder coatings chemistries which cure to a durable scratch resistant finish with improved corrosion resistance.

 Cleaning

A phosphate pretreatment cleans and prepares objects to be powder coated.

The powder epoxy is significantly easier to use than a liquid epoxy paint. The liquid counterparts become difficult to work with because of a tendency to gel in paint lines and guns. High performance liquids often present health hazards, whereas powders can be selected which do not pose additional health risks to operators.

The powder coating process also improves the protection of the sharp edges of a part. Liquid paints tend to run away from sharp edges but powders cover the edges very well.

Morton Buildings also appreciates the ecological benefits of powder coatings. Liquid paints produce hazardous waste that is costly to dispose of. The overspray of powders can be collected and used again and again. The small amount of remaining waste powder can be safely disposed of in approved landfills. Because they are greater than 98% nonvolatile, they do not emit any significant pollutants into the atmosphere.

Liquid paints are typically made with greater than 50% solvents which evaporate into the air during spraying and drying. According to the EPA, paint solvents are among the chief causes of pollution. With liquid paints, the explosive solvents must be exhausted from inside the oven to prevent their accumulation in the oven's air. Our curing oven operates efficiently because there is no need to exhaust the heated air, thus preserving our natural resources.

Our new powder coating line helps Morton to provide our customers with the most effective, cost efficient, and environmentally safe paint system available today. Morton Buildings is constantly striving for new and better ways to provide the best possible building for the best possible price, this is just one more distinct advantage of owning a Morton Building.
