While many companies claim to have rust resistant or stainless steel screws, Morton buildings has developed a true stainless steel screw. Note the cutaway view showing the thin stainless cap of a Brand-X as compared to the Morton SS-ID® which is solid stainless steel. Hot dipped galvanized nails have excellent long-term performance, but do not allow for color matching of the siding materials. After installation colored nails are only partially colored due to paint chipping. Conventional hex head screws have a similar problem. Note the chipping as compared to a Morton internal drive. Morton Buildings set out to develop a color matched fastener that would look better and eliminate the possibility of rust. Morton Buildings has developed such a screw. It is called the SS-ID® screw (which stands for Stainless Steel Internal Drive screw). This fastener has a solid 300 series stainless steel head and shank as well as a separate stainless steel and EPDM washer. This design eliminates rust problems associated with "Brand-X" screws, which only have a stainless steel cap and washer all-in-one over a carbon steel head and carbon steel shank, both of which are susceptible to rust. The SS-ID® screw has a lower profile than "Brand-X" as well thanks to the internal drive design of the screw and not having the added bulk of a "cap" on top of the screw. The internal drive screw eliminates unsightly paint chipping during installation and also easily blends in with the panels since they are painted to match our steel colors to provide a professional appearance. It is an exclusive of Morton Buildings! |
