A couple of miles northeast of Milbank, South Dakota lies Jim DeVaal's small dairy farm. He has 40 cows year round and 550 acres of cash grain on the side. Jim and his wife Carla, who works for United Hardware; a warehouse for Trustworthy and Hardware Hank stores; and their two children moved to the farm in 1988. | Before Jim built his Morton dairy facility, he shopped around and examined other peoples' buildings. "The year before I built mine," says Jim, "a friend built one about double [my building's] size. I watched it closely. I got a price from [the Minnesota based company], but I wasn't impressed with the way they do their buildings. I thought I was getting a better deal with Morton." |
